The entire General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) revolves around the protection of personal data, how personal data can be used and so forth. We will go over what 'Protection by design' and 'Protection by default' mean in the GDPR.

The data controller shall, both at the time of the determination of the processing means and at the time of the processing itself, implement appropriate technical and organizational measures which are designed to implement data protection principles in an effective manner and integrate the necessary safeguards into the processing in order to meet the requirements of the GDPR.

The data controller shall implement appropriate technical and organizational measures for ensuring that, by default, only Personal Data which are necessary for each specific purpose of the processing are processed.
